Terms of Service

Welcome to The Greenhorn Edit. By engaging my book editing services, you agree to the following terms and conditions. Please read them carefully.

1. The supplier (editor) is a sole trader and is responsible for all business-related fees and taxes that they are required to pay to HMRC.

2. The supplier offers professional book editing services, including (but not limited to) manuscript assessment, line and copy editing, proofreading, and creative writing coaching. The exact scope of the work will be outlined in a separate agreement.

3. The result of the job will be delivered to the client within the pre-agreed deadline, provided that the supplier receives the text within a reasonable timeframe. If the work is submitted late, the supplier will likely not be able to meet the original deadline and they may reject the project, even if it has already been confirmed.

4. If at some point during the job it turns out that more work is necessary or the work will take more time than previously assumed, the supplier has the right to renegotiate the payment and/or the deadline.

5. The supplier may refuse to work on a manuscript if they don’t feel comfortable with its content. If they have been misled by the client in this respect and they decide that they cannot continue with the job, they must be compensated for the work they have already done. A cancellation fee may also apply.

6. The service does not entail altering of the text of the manuscript. Any suggested changes must be approved and performed by the client themselves.

7. The supplier does not fact-check the manuscript and cannot be held liable for any legally questionable content included in the client’s text, such as blasphemy, libel, harassment, plagiarism, etc.

8. All permissions to use others’ copyrighted content, such as quotations and illustrations, must be obtained by the client. The supplier may flag them but is not responsible for making sure that such content is used in the manuscript in accordance with the law.

9. The supplier does not accept plagiarised text. If they find that the client has extensively and/or deliberately borrowed without proper attribution from other people’s work, they reserve the right to cancel the job and to charge for the hours they have already spent assessing the manuscript.

10. Files should be submitted in electronic form and checked for viruses prior to submitting. The supplier also uses corruption detecting software. If a file or email is found to contain a virus, the supplier reserves the right not to work with the client. If some work was already done before corruption became an issue, the supplier must be compensated for it.

11. The client will pay the supplier per page, hour, word or whole project according to what has been agreed. Prices include VAT.

12. Payment should be made to the supplier’s Paypal account, upon the supplier accepting the job. It is possible to split the payment in half, the other half to be paid upon completion of half of the assignment.

13. Completed work will be sent via email as a Microsoft Word file or an EPUB, with comments in the file, as well as a separate report.

14. If the outcome of the job is unsatisfactory to the client (what constitutes ‘unsatisfactory’ is determined by the agreement specifying the details of the job), the supplier will correct it on their own time, free of charge.

15. While the supplier strives to provide high-quality editing services, they cannot guarantee publication or commercial success.

16. Either party may terminate the agreement with written notice. In the event of termination, the client is responsible for payment for completed work up to the termination date.

17. All copyright remains with the client, unless the agreement establishes otherwise.

18. The nature of the job and the client’s details are confidential and they will not be shared with third parties unless with permission from the client. Some materials exchanged during the service may be used, after removing identifying details, in the process of standard running of the business, to secure new business, for example as part of the portfolio or in coaching materials.

19. The client must be at least 18 years old to be able to purchase a service from the supplier.

20. These terms of service are governed by the laws of the United Kingdom. They are effective from Mar 28, 2025 and were last updated on Mar 28, 2025.
